NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Private-sector businesses are looking forward to the full resumption and operational capacity of businesses, according to Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) Chairperson Khrystle Rutherford-Ferguson.

Following Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis’ Monday night address, during which he announced emergency orders will end by November, Rutherford-Ferguson said: “My members would love to operate their businesses without restrictions, however, we acknowledge this recent surge in new COVID-19 cases, which must be brought under control.

“We further acknowledge that current restrictions call for a balance of protecting health, safety and livelihoods while allowing commerce.”

She added: “Without a doubt, we look forward to the full resumption and operational capacity of businesses as they navigate the most recently announced temporary restrictions.”

Minnis announced on Monday night that the government will seek one final extension of the emergency orders for three months, following which The Bahamas will come under a new legislative regime by way of the Public Health Preparedness and Management Bill.

As long as this virus petsusts,, resumption of normal operations will not happen. The end of Emergency Orders is giving many a sigh of relief but all of the powers will be transferred into the new legislation which will still give the government the ability to do the same things
