A Bahamian company has been selected to manage the New Providence landfill, according to Environment Minister Romauld Ferriera.

While the minister did not reveal the company’s name, he said the relevant paperwork is being finalized.

The government terminated its contract with Renew Bahamas following Hurricane Matthew last year.

Legacy issues at the dump site have been most vexing for residents and – according to Ferriera – the company is expected to address the challenges.

A recycling plan was included in the previous agreement, however, Ferriera said that option may not be included this time around.
