News Director Clint Watson encourages students to keep pushing

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It is always an auspicious occasion when the youth of the nation is celebrated for outstanding academic achievement.

On Wednesday, faculty and staff at the L.W. Young Junior High School recognized the accomplishments of students, issuing almost 200 awards at their honour roll and awards ceremony.

Under the theme ‘It’s Your Winning Season,’  guest speaker and Eyewitness News Director Clint Watson, admonished students to continue the fight amidst life’s most challenging battles.

“The best way to win is to know when life happens; it is not over. Keep pushing, keep pressing,” Watson told the students.

Watson also encouraged students to make the right decisions and to remain in good spirits even if they may experience parental strife at home.

L.W. Young head girl, Wilmide Cenatus, told Eyewitness News Online the special secrets of her academic success.

“Some parents have issues and problems, but it all depends on the student who really feels like they want to work hard,” she shared.

“For me, I have a bit of a problem [at home], but because I studied hard and I am dedicated to a lot of things, and I kept my mind focused on one thing at a time, I was able to make it this far.

While there has been recent public discourse regarding the disciplinary structure in public schools, principal at L.W. Young, Stephen McPhee, said that he believes the presence of more male figures could assist in reducing the behavioural challenges among students.

“We have to find a way to get men in the school,” McPhee said.

“When you look on most of the administrative teams in schools, you may have one or two males.”

“Most of the primary schools don’t even have a male administrator in the position of senior master because most of the males are technical teachers.
