NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Ministry of Tourism over the past few months has conducted a ‘product audit’ to identify areas where upgrades and repairs are needed, according to Tourism Director General Joy Jibrilu.
While addressing a Bahamas Business Outlook Tourism and Hospitality webinar, Jibrilu acknowledged that a lot of work needs to be done to upgrade the downtown district.
“A lot of work needs to be done, a lot of work even from a cleanliness standpoint,” she said.
“One of things the Ministry of Tourism has done over the past few months with the lockdowns, curfews etc, is we did a product audit; Nassau, Grand Bahama and the family islands. We looked at what needs to be done and what needs to be repaired, even signage.
“This is a document we have produced. Recommendations are in that document. document. Some of it falls under the Ministry of Tourism and others we will try and engage with stakeholders on. It’s up to all of us,” she said.
Jibrilu noted that despite the pandemic, work on the redevelopment of the Nassau Cruise Port continues. This project she said will create a “natural renaissance” for downtown.
While its completion is 18-months to two years away, Jibrilu said, “I hope that as people start to see the changes taking place they will start doing the upgrades they need to do.”
Just sending the fire trucks down town to pressure wash layers of filth off and to hose away the urine in every side street and human and dog poop. Human urine in the 90+ degree heat is a special oder. Get rid of nasty first. Fine owners of derlict buildings as they are health and safety hazards. File suits to have them condemned and torn down. Get them government lawyers to sue to get title deed ofderlict buildibgs who are more than 24 months behind on Real Property Tax. Then sell them at auction with a 6month deadline to demolish and remove the structure or submit plans for renovation and begin work to be completed in 12-18months.
About time! Also make sure the RBPForce that works around there actually do what they are suppose to and not harass tourists and citizens like they do!
