J.S. Johnson sponsors volleyball nationals

The Bahamas National High School Volleyball championships gained a much-needed sponsor on Wednesday.

J.S. Johnson has come on board as the chief sponsor of the two-day event, which takes place Nov 15-17 at the Anatol Rodgers High School gymnasium.

“It is a pleasure for us to be able to partner with the ministry,” said J.S. Johnson Senior Manager Robert Bartlett.

“We consider ourselves as responsible corporate citizens. We know the discipline that comes with competing at an event of this magnitude, seeing that only the best will be allowed to participate in the championships. On behalf of the management and staff of J.S. Johnson, it is really a pleasure for us to lend our support both financially and physically, showing up to the games when we can.”

For the first time since its inception, teams from Bimini and Eleuthera will be competing in the tournament.

“Our Family Island teams, inclusive of Freeport, who always travels for the tournament, are extremely excited for the opportunity to be able to compete on such a big stage,” said senior education officer Evon Wisdom.

“Having these types of tournaments drastically enlarges the national team pool when it’s time to travel for international competition. We are working hard to be as inclusive as possible while ensuring we maintain the quality of the competition. Volleyball is a very technical sport, and we need to make sure all of the team’s competition are up to our standard.”

Organizations being represented at the tournament include the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association, Bahamas Scholastic Athletic Association and Grand Bahama Secondary Schools Athletic Associations.
