Therapeutic care for children living with autism will now be more accessible thanks to a sizeable donation from the Island Luck (IL) Cares Foundation to the Resource and Educational Source for Autism and other related Challenges in the Bahamas (R.E.A.C.H.) organization yesterday.
Island Luck’s Marketing Manager Michelle Fox made the $5,000 donation to R.E.A.C.H. Board Member Marsha Newbold yesterday, underscoring the foundation’s commitment to the community.
Newbold said the funds will also allow for more children to participate in a developmental therapeutic camp for a longer period of time, slated for later this year.
“Without the donation, this would not be possible,” Newbold said.
“Therapy is out of reach for most of the parents because of the expense. One of the requites of participating in the program is that the must not already have access to therapy. So we have a long list of persons waiting to be a part of this… it really is a big deal.”
R.E.A.C.H., Newbold said, has helped to increase awareness of autism in The Bahamas and their work, with the help of corporate Bahamas, will continue.
April is recognized as Autism month worldwide and REACH continues to be involved in a national campaign on this rapidly growing neurological disorder.
