Insulin costs soar

Diabetic Bahamians may now be subject to exorbitant prices for their insulin as one of the world’s premier insulin providers – Eli Lily – has drastically increased its price in recent years.

According to reports, the medicine can cost anywhere close to $320 per vile, making it a life or death situation for persons without insurance.

Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands the hike in the price for the medicine could have a trickle-down effect for diabetics locally.
