Hield, Kings yet to reach agreement on contract extension
Buddy Hield

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- The deadline for upcoming fourth-year players to extend their rookie-scale contracts is on Monday, however, Buddy Hield and the Sacramento Kings have yet to make any headway on what has been a rigorous negotiating process to say the least.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sport, the Kings made Hield an offer of $90 million for four years. However, it is reported that Hield looking for a four-year deal worth around $110 million.

“I don’t know if things are going to get done. If it doesn’t get done, me and my team will look somewhere else, probably look for another home. Until then, we’ll see what happens here. That’s the goal, to be here, and I love Sacramento.

“But if they don’t want me here, they don’t feel like I’m part of the core — I like respect and loyalty and I feel like I’m part of the group that’s been getting the team back where it needs to be. So, like I said I want to be here, but if they don’t want me here I’ll find somewhere else to be.”

Hield is set to enter the final year of his rookie contract (four-year, $15.9-million) and is eligible for a rookie scale contract extension (up to $158.1 million over five years). The deadline for both sides to reach an agreement on the extension is October 21. The 2019-20 season tips off on October 22.

If the two sides fail to come to an agreement before then, Hield could become a restricted free agent next summer if the Kings extend the $6.48 million offer.
