NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) donated produce from its farm in North Andros to the Ranfurly Home for Children.

The donation included cases of sweet potatoes, eggplant, pumpkin, and papaya.

October 16 was recognized as the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FOA) World Food Day under the theme “Grow, Nourish, Sustain, Together”.

BAMSI joined the global community in celebrating the day.

The organization‘s commitment is aligned with the FOA’s efforts to promote awareness about those who suffer from hunger; ensure healthy diets for every community, and to give back to the community.

“With COVID-19 affecting countless lives, the call to action presented by World Food Day 2020 becomes even more urgent,” BAMSI Chairman Stephen Turnquest said.

“As one of the agencies tasked with improving food security and increasing the availability of safe and nutritious foods, BAMSI relies on the engines of research education and public engagement to achieve its mission of improving the quality, variety, and quantity of food being produced in The Bahamas.”
