First murder recorded for 2019 in nation’s second city
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The first murder for 2019 in the nation’s second city of Grand Bahama was recorded on Sunday.
Eyewitness News Online understands that the victim is popular Freeport businessman Lester Adderley Sr., who was reportedly gunned down in front of his business, Game Time Sports Bar, in the Gwen’s Plaza in Freeport.
Police reported that on Sunday, January 13, shortly after 12 a.m., police were alerted to gunshots being fired in the area of East Atlantic Drive.
Officers quickly responded, and upon arrival, discovered the lifeless body of a male, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adderley was the original owner of the Mega Hits Record Store in the Port Lucaya Marketplace, and he was also the owner of Khafe Express on East Atlantic Drive in Freeport.
Back in August 2015, Adderley’s son, Lester Adderley Jr., was also murdered.
Police discovered Adderley Jr’s bullet-riddled body in the parking lot of the Blue Marina Cove apartments on Sunken Treasure Drive on August 22, 2015.
Adderley Jr. was the country’s 97th homicide victim in 2015 and the 10th for Grand Bahama. At the time, Inspector Terecita Pinder of Grand Bahama Police said officers went to Sunken Treasure Drive, where they discovered the lifeless body of a man in the parking lot of an apartment complex with gunshot wounds to the body.
Adderley Jr. was also one of several persons questioned in connection with the death of Freeport businessman Konstantino Vardoulis, who was shot outside his Bahama Reef Boulevard residence in 2008.
Meanwhile, police are appealing to the public for any information that can assist with their investigation into the murder of Lester Adderley Sr., to give them a call at the Central Detective Unit at telephone numbers 350-3107 thru 12, 911/919 or the nearest police station.
Adderley’s death pushed the country’s murder count to three for 2019.
