As the Bahamas Gaming Operators Association (BGOA) plans to proceed with legal action against the government on the proposed increase in taxes on its industry, Parliamentarians appear to be split over the issue.

On Monday, Minister of State for Legal Affairs Elsworth Johnson argued during the 2018-2019 Budget debate that the tax increase was “necessary” for the benefit of the country.

It was in direct contradiction of last week’s stance from Member of Parliament (MP) for Pine Ridge Frederick McAlpine who sided with the operators saying that the tax is “discriminatory”.
