Dorian ravaged Abaco and GB, displacing thousands
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The government is extending the value added tax (VAT) filing deadline for those that are still reeling from the deadly impact of Hurricane Dorian.
Department of Inland Revenue Acting Controller Gaynell Rolle said yesterday that she has been inundated with calls from concerned businessmen who do not think they were able to make the deadline due to the storm disabling much of the islands’ technological capabilities.
However, Rolle told Eyewitness News Online the government is taking everything into consideration and will grant business owners some leniency.
“September 21 is the VAT filing deadline for our monthly persons and their concern is they do not have access to do any filing and is the government considering any extension for that,” Rolle said.
“I was able to assure them that the government is considering an extension for that. Our minister of finance is going to make an announcement very shortly. Also, our acting financial secretary. That is something we discussed on Tuesday and it’s very positive that the extension will be granted.”
Dorian ravaged Grand Bahama and Abaco of September 1-2, impacting thousands.
