NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Governor General’s Volunteer Bahamas organization is set for an official launch that will be aired on local TV stations Monday night.

The RBPF Band

In a statement released today, the group announced: “More than one year after a small group of citizens began meeting to organize a volunteer movement under the auspices of Governor General CA Smith to create, recognize and reward a culture of volunteerism in The Bahamas, the now official initiative will blaze to life on television screens across the nation Monday night following most news broadcasts.”

Julien Believe

According to the group, the official launch will feature performances by the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) Band, Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Band and original music by Julien Believe and friends; virtual pledges by volunteers; video clips of inspiring acts of volunteerism; and remarks from Governor General and Volunteer Bahamas Chairman Barry Rassin.

“The launch that included about 500 students as well as representatives from numerous civic organizations was originally set for mid-March and had to be canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions,” the group explained.

“A steering committee has been working behind the scenes to formalize the organization which will have a staffed office, a secretariat and a busy calendar, helping NGOs connect to achieve mutual goals, connect volunteers with projects, provide back-office training for volunteer organizations to build efficiencies and to recognize and reward those who go above and beyond without expectation of monetary reward.

“The 50-minute show, filled with entertainment and inspiration, will air Monday, November 23 on ZNS at 8:30 p.m. following the evening news, at 8:30 pm on ILTV following Beyond The Headlines with Clint Watson and on Cable 12 following Our News at 8 p.m. Masters of ceremony are Secretary to the Governor General Jack Thompson and Tin Ferl entrepreneur and youth representative for Volunteer Bahamas Patrice ‘Puppy’ Robinson.”
