NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Government and Public Policy Institute (GPPI) of the University of The Bahamas (UB) has announced that it will commence its 50th Independence Distinguished Lecture Series on June 13th.
Cornelius Smith will take the stage as the presenter, marking the first time that a sitting Governor-General will deliver a lecture at the university.
“The GPPI is renowned for its provision of highly sought-after services in the areas of research, policy design, and implementation, both domestically and internationally,” a statement read. “Comprised of a team of exceptional professionals, the institute is committed to fostering public policy discourse, engaging in innovative research, and delivering comprehensive training. Their efforts contribute significantly to the promotion of good governance, prosperity, and sustainable development in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean region.
The Distinguished Lecture Series is described as an “intellectual catalyst” that has the aim of empowering the public to gain insights into pivotal national and international issues that shape life in The Bahamas.
The upcoming lecture aligns with the celebration of The Bahamas’ 50th year of independence and the Governor-General will present on the theme “Empowerment, Education, and Excellence 50 Years into Our Independence” on Tuesday, June 13, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
The lecture will take place at the Harry C. Moore Library Auditorium, University of The Bahamas.
