Godet steps down as national team coach

After three underwhelming performances by team Bahamas through the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Nations League so far, head coach Dion Godet yesterday announced his decision to step down from his position with the team.

In its most recent game, team Bahamas tied Anguilla 1-1, however, the team came in as the favourite to win the matchup.

In a statement, Godet said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve as head coach, and that he was grateful to all the players on the squad for their efforts.

“I saw a glimpse of what is possible and I think I have carried the baton to its optimal point. It’s time for someone new with better ideas and more commitment to step up. I wish all of you the very best and I pray someday that our football team will move to a new level. I say thank you to all that gave their very best. Now is goodbye and farewell. I am so sorry that I have no more to offer this sport at this level. I will be formally stepping down as head coach of the men’s national team,” outlined a statement issued from Godet.

The Bahamas fell 4-0 to Belize in its first CONCACAF Nations League game, and then lost 6-0 to Antigua and Barbuda in game two.

The Bahamas hasn’t won an international match in seven years, and is currently ranked No. 34 in the CONCACAF region and 210 worldwide.
