The nation’s second city is preparing to host the second installment of its technical summit, said Minister of State for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson.
The first installment was held in 2017 and according Thompson, this year’s event is shaping up to surpass last year’s success.
The three-day summit will be held November 14-16 and is expected to further support government’s intent to transform Grand Bahama into a technical hub.
“It is going to highlight Grand Bahama and what the island has to offer in the technology field,” Thompson said.
“There will be a number of large and small companies who will be in Grand Bahama, so the idea is that we want to attract some investment from them.
“This is something we have been able to do in the past, so we are hoping to be able to do the same thing. This is a good opportunity for us to market the island and get more investment into the island as well.”
Thompson confirmed that some 400 persons have already registered for the event.
Twenty-five per cent of that number are expected to be international attendees.
Thompson revealed that the summit will also focus on the importance of the Minnis led administration’s e-government initiative and the important role technology will play in its roll out.
“One of the things that we must do is make government work better for people and we need to do that through the use of technology,” Thompson said.
“So, we will introduce a plan there on how government will move forward in respect to e-government, how we can integrate the services and how we can make the entire government system work better for people.”
The tech summit will be held at the Grand Lucayan Convention Center.
