Gardiner wins gold

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Steven Gardiner set a new national record on his way to a gold medal in the finale of the men’s 400 meters (m) in Doha, Qatar, crossing the line in 43.48 seconds.

With the win, Gardiner became just the second Bahamian to win a world championship in the event behind Avard Moncur, who won it in 2001 in Edmonton, Canada.

Colombian Anthony Zambrano picked up the silver in an area record and national record time of 44.15 seconds. American Fred Kerley was third in 44.17 seconds.

Jamaican Demish Gaye finished fourth in a personal best time of 44.46 seconds, and former World and Olympic Champion Kirani James, of Grenada, rounded out the top five in 44.54 seconds.
