Tourism Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar, who holds responsibility for gaming, told Eyewitness News Thursday that the date stands for the implementation of the sliding tax for gaming operators.

The idea of the new tax was initially introduced during the government’s mid-year budget presentation. That initial plan was to levy the tax on July 31st, but the government decided to postpone the taxation after receiving pushback from gaming operators.

A period of consultation then commenced and government conducted a study, based on best regional practices, to confirm whether or not the tax tiers were unfair.

One month later, the new introduction date is pegged at September 1.
