Fox reflects on minor league season

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Coming off his second straight season hitting below.270, Lucius Fox turned it around in the Arizona Fall League (AFL).

The No. 9 Tampa Bay Rays prospect collected six multi-hit games through his first seven games and kept on hitting to finish with .326 average. As Peoria’s leadoff hitter, Fox said it took him some time to adjust to the advanced competition but was pleased with how he ended the AFL season.

“It was a great experience. Going into the AFL I went in with some goals in mind. I knew I had some stuff to work on and I’m thankful to the Rays for giving me the opportunity,” Fox said. “Going out there and actually doing well, I was proud of that. I made some adjustments from the season and was able to put together some strong games.”

Fox had an up and down regular season with the Charlotte Stone Crabs and Montgomery Biscuits, starting off hot before cooling down toward the end of the season. He hit well in nearly 90 games for Charlotte prior to being called up to Montgomery where he struggled.

“This season was a bit up and down for me in terms of hitting,” he added. “In August, it was tough. Moving to Double AA, I had to make some adjustments. I do look forward to playing a full season with the team. I feel that will make some difference as well.

“With high-level ball, the pitchers are so smart and skilled, they take advantage of any weaknesses you have. As a hitter, you have to make adjustments on the fly. Instead of bat-to-bat, it’s more pitch-to-pitch. At this point now, I have to ensure I come in better than I was last season. That’s what it’s all about.”
