Force remains committed, despite manpower issues

National Security Minister Marvin Dames stressed on Friday that despite the recent audit report, which cited the need for more manpower on the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) in order for the organization to be more effective, the force has and will always remain active in its duties.

The audit recently tabled in the House of Assembly (HOA) noted that the top-heavy force needed close to 800 junior officers to be more effective.

The audit also revealed that the 2017 promotional exercises left an oversaturated number of senior positions, serving little to no value to the force,  a find Dames said is not a surprise, considering the heavy criticism received after more than 800 officers were promoted on the eve of the general election.

“The only way we were able to determine the strength was to do it through triangulation,” Dames said.

“Once we knew what those numbers are we were able to move from there.”
