NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Free National Movement (FNM) on Monday expressed its deepest condolences to the family of Royal Bahamas Defence Force Petty Officer Philip Perpall, who was shot to death while on duty at Government House on Sunday morning.
The party also pushed for unity among all political parties as Perpall’s family continues to come to grips with his untimely death.
“The tragic event that took place on Sunday morning has shocked our entire country and the FNM mourns for the victim of such a senseless crime,” the FNM said in an issued statement.
“The FNM gives its deepest condolences to the family of Petty Officer Philip Perpall, who served his country for over 30 years, gaining the respect of his peers for his character and his commitment to service.”
The FNM said it wanted to thank all RBDF personnel who put their lives on the line daily to protect others.
Perpall, 52, was a Guard Commander at Government House.
He was shot by a lone gunman who entered the premises shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, according to police.
The gunman fled the scene, but police confirmed that a person of interest is in custody.
Meanwhile, the FNM said they are confident that the current investigation will provide answers and ultimately justice.
“However, today is not a day for politics, and we encourage our friends on the other side of the political aisle to respect this time of mourning and withhold their political rhetoric and to honor the victim and his family,” the FNM said.
