Fire Services extinguish blaze at old St John’s College building
Firefighters respond to a blaze at a single-story structure on Baillou Hill Road

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Firefighters are working to clear the remnants of a structural fire at one of the abandoned buildings that formerly housed St John’s College.

Chief Fire Officer Superintendent Thomas Lightbourne said officers were alerted to the blaze at a single-story structure on Baillou Hill Road shortly after 10am.

Lightbourne said the abandoned building at the southern end was fully engulfed, adding it was the second time fire services had been called to the property for the year.

He said the fire had been virtually extinguished but it would take some time to completely clear the area due to the heavy accumulation of garbage inside the building.

Lightbourne said there was no reported injuries, other property damage or exposure.
