Father and sons face drug and currency charges

A father and his two sons were arraigned in Magistrates court yesterday, in connection with the discovery of more than $1.3 million dollars in United States (U.S.) currency and $60,000 worth of marijuana in Grand Bahama on Monday.

Hank Ferlin Weech, 50, Brandon Michael Weech, 26, and 21-year-old Brad Charles Weech, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain.

Each was charged with one count of possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply and possession of the proceeds of criminal conduct.

It is alleged that the men, being concerned together, were found in possession of $1,351,162, all in U.S. currency, as well as 45 pounds worth of suspected marijuana.

According to reports, it was shortly after midnight Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers went to a home on Hampshire Drive, South Bahamia.

Armed with a search warrant, officers said they searched the residence and discovered over $1 million in U.S. currency.

Three hours later, in the same community, DEU officers and the Rapid Response Unit went to an apartment on Hampshire Drive, South Bahamia.

When officers searched the home, they said they discovered a duffle bag stashed in the ceiling.

The bag contained almost 10 pounds of suspected hashish and a little more than 45 pounds of suspected marijuana, police said.

The drugs are said to have a combined street valued of $65,000.

The men pleaded not guilty to the charges. They were denied bail and were remanded to the Department of Corrections (DOC) until on June 20 for trial.
