NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The future of Abaco Big Bird’s poultry production is still “up in the air” nearly two months since the passage of Hurricane Dorian.

Lance Pinder, operations manager at Abaco Big Bird said proprietors were still deliberating as “it is hard to see that part of the company just die”.

“However, there are many challenges to overcome, some which existed even before the hurricane. Every aspect of the farm has been rendered inoperable and so there is no income to jumpstart any projects,” Pinder said.

Pinder told Eyewitness News Online that the company recently had its avocado tree pruned with the hope that in two years, its avocado production would be ‘back up and running”.

“Our lime orchards are completely wiped out and we are looking at replanting those,” said Pinder.

In an interview with Eyewitness News Online back in September Pinder admitted that there were ‘major reservations’ about restarting the business post-storm as he cited government bureaucracy and red tape. The company had employed 35 persons prior to Dorian.

A GoFund Me page launched on behalf of the company has raised just over $1,000 of its $20,000 goal.
