NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Eight Bahamians have been recognized by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for their contribution to the national development of The Bahamas.
The group is among 1,148 persons from around the world who were selected to receive the Queen’s New Year’s honour for 2019.
Former Attorney General Janet Bostwick is now a Dame, having been chosen to receive the honour of Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her service in politics.
Cabinet Secretary, Camille Johnson, has been chosen to receive the honour of St. Michael and St. George, for her work in Education and the Public Service.
The following persons received the Queen’s Order of the British Empire:
Former commissioner of police, Reginald Ferguson, for his commitment to the civil service.
Apostle Leon Wallace, for his outstanding service in religion and the community.
Reverend Monsignor Alfred Cedric Culmer, for his work in the religious community.
The following persons received the Queen’s British Empire Medal:
Jason Harrison Hanna, for his work in business and the community.
Former Bahamas Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union president, Nicole Martin, for her service to the hotel industry and former minister of housing.
Alfred Kenneth Russell, for his service in politics and business.
Overall, 70 per cent of the 2019 recipients include those who have undertaken outstanding work in their communities, either in a voluntary or paid capacity.
Meanwhile, 544 women are recognized on the list, representing 47 per cent of the total persons on it.
