Economic Bill passes in HOA

Economic Bill passes in HOA
Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis.

Bill moves to Senate

The Economic Empowerment Bill passed in the House of Assembly (HOA) Thursday night and will now make its way to the Senate for debate.

The bill, if passed in both chambers, will pave the way for Over-the-Hill communities to become tax-free zones and is, according to Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, an effort to spur economic development while bringing great assistance to the poor.

The bill, however, was heavily critised by members of the opposition who said recent that they are of the view that the bill will lead to gentrification and do more to assist the business community as opposed to those who really need it.
