Dorsett shining for Patriots

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Philip Dorsett continues to shine on the field for the New England Patriots.

Dorsett caught his third touchdown in three games yesterday and the Patriots pulled out a 35-31 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the American Football Conference (AFC) title game.

With the win, New England booked a ticket to Super Bowl 52 in Atlanta where it takes on the Los Angeles Rams.

In the AFC clincher, Dorsett caught a 29-yard pass in the end-zone for a touchdown with 30 seconds left in the first half. It was his only catch of the game and the Patriots’ second touchdown of the half.

His first touchdown of the postseason came last week on a 15-yard pass from Tom Brady in a win over the San Diego Chargers.

Despite the fact he’s still playing behind Julian Edelman and is not a frequent target for Brady, Dorsett said he works hard to stay in great shape for when the opportunity to make a catch comes his way.

“I work to ensure I am a reliable piece. That’s just taking pride as a receiver,” Dorsett said about his role.

“When you get to the NFL, you want to be a guy that can be able to contribute and when the team needs a play, they’re like, ‘OK, we’re coming to you.’ You always want to be that guy. That’s just the player I am. I’m never going to stop working toward being that guy.”

During the regular season, the chances to prove himself came few and far between. In a year when the Patriots desperately needed receiver production, Dorsett played 35 per cent of offensive snaps with 32 receptions for 290 yards and three touchdowns.

He’ll have another chance to prove himself on February 2 in his second consecutive trip to the Super Bowl.
