Eligible young Bahamians can still register online or at the Department of Labour
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Enrollment to the Citizens Security and Justice Programme’s (CSJP) 2020 Job Training has officially wrapped up for the year.
The last registration drive was held on Thursday in the Mt. Moriah constituency, according to a recent press statement.
The enrollment in the Job Corps training has been ongoing for weeks, with scores of young Bahamians signing up for the free courses, which include Soft Skills training, Technical Trades, Hospitality and Retail and Numeracy and Literacy.
Cloyston Beckford, 29, said more programs like this was needed in The Bahamas.
“I think this is a wonderful program for the youth in The Bahamas, it will be beneficial for individuals who are trying to be career driven and uplift individuals who are trying to uplift themselves,” said Beckford, who registered the Department of Labour’s Public Employment System.
The CSJP Job Corps involves both a training element as well as a job matching database in the new updated system using Jobseekers.bahamas.gov.bs.
Training is open to all young Bahamians and legal residents, but targets those who may be unemployed, between the ages 15 to 29 years old and anyone who may have left high school with less than a diploma or fewer than 5 BGCSE’s.
“We are targeting any young person who is in need of a second chance, who may not have been successful in high school, who didn’t finish high school or left with only a leaving certificate,” said CSJP Monitoring and Evaluations specialist Arvis Mortimer, who works closely with the Job Corps.
“This is a great opportunity for youth to improve their lives because they will be better equipped for the world of work – whether that’s obtaining a job upon completion or becoming an entrepreneur.
“Our program seeks to provide much needed, comprehensive, and data-supported training.”
The training courses will kick off in the first-half of 2020, facilitated by participating vendors that specialize in the designated discipline. Enrollment is encouraged by using one of two methods, including going to the Department of Labour directly or logging on to the Jobseekers website from any smart phone or computer device and inputting required information.
The CSJP will release its new schedule for mobile enrollment sessions throughout New Providence in 2020.
