NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Demolition works at the old post office site and Royal Victoria Gardens are expected to be completed by March of 2021, it was revealed yesterday.
Woslee Construction has been contracted to carry out the demolition works.
Ian Fernander, capital development manager for the Central Bank, noted during a press conference yesterday that the bank acquired the Royal Victoria Gardens property from the government over a year ago.
“The process started maybe about four years prior to that,” said Fernander.
He explained the old post office is being demolished first, followed by the structures at Royal Victoria Gardens where the new Central Bank building will be constructed.
“We would have gone out for bids and received bids ranging from around $2 million all the way up to $12 million. That was the spread of the bids we received. We went through a very judicious process and the decision was to go with Woslee’s bid which was on the lower end of the spectrum and also one of the most effective and efficient ways of demolition,” said Fernander.
According to Woslee executives, the demolition will not involve implosion but excavation. The demolition of the post office is expected to be completed towards the end of January and the timeline for the demolition of the structures at Royal Victoria Gardens is around the first week of March.
