Debate on the Economic Empowerment Bill began in the House of Assembly (HOA) Wednesday.

Intended to meet the needs of the poor, the bill’s objective – according to Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis – is to address the main social ills facing the poor.

While the government has touted the bill as the “rebirth” of Over-the-hill communities, Dr. Minnis placed blame for the issues plaguing the communities at the feet of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) yesterday, and said that the PLP created “a drug and violence culture” in the areas.
