Dames commends RBPF on arrest of alleged abductors
Minister of National Security Marvin Dames.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – National Security minister Marvin Dames commended the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) yesterday on its announcement of the arrest of two women believed to be responsible for the recent string of child abductions in the capital.

Solomon Cash, Head of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) announced over the weekend that officers had a 29 and 35-year-old in custody in connection with those incidents.

Yesterday, Dames remained hopeful that the matter will be brought to a close speedily.

“This is a clear example of where we are trying to take the RBPF and all of our law enforcement agencies; that we have the confidence in the men and women of these agencies to do their jobs and do it well,” he said.

“Kudos goes out to the RBPF as well as all of those persons who would have assisted in some way, including the community, in bringing this matter to a close.”

Cash revealed to media on Sunday that authorities arrested the 29-year-old in eastern New Providence on Saturday.

When questioned by authorities, she reportedly confessed to the abductions, according to Cash.

Her alleged accomplice in an early February abduction was arrested on Eleuthera yesterday.

Cash said the 35-year-old woman was being flown to New Providence.

He confirmed that police retrieved the suspected vehicle used in the abductions — a silver Nissan Tiida — which was being examined for additional evidence.

The women are expected to be charged sometime this week.

“We are grateful that the persons responsible are in police custody, so, let’s just see where the investigation goes,” Dames said.
