NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A police chase involving two occupants of a silver vehicle in the Kennedy Subdivision shortly after 4am, ended with police shooting a man who pointed a firearm in their direction, according to police.

Officers responding to reports of a silver vehicle with two occupants driving in the Kennedy Subdivision community “acting in a suspicious manner”, spotted the vehicle fitting that description, police said.

A curfew remains in place in New Providence and Abaco between 7pm and 5am daily.

Police ordered the driver to stop, but occupants did not comply and the vehicle sped off.

Police pursued the vehicle until it came to a stop at a dead-end on Faith Deliverance Way.

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle exited and pointed a firearm in the direction of officers who were closing in.

“The officers, being cognizant of the imminent threat to their lives produced their service weapon and discharged it in the direction of the suspects, injuring one,” police said.

The second occupant of the vehicle escaped.

The injured suspect was transported to the hospital in “serious, but stable condition”.

Police said they recovered a black and silver 9mm Smith and Wesson pistol containing four rounds of unfired ammunition from the victim on scene.

Hours later, an area resident told Eyewitness News the unfamiliar sound of gunshots woke her up.

“I was between sleep and awake,” she claimed.

“I heard one shot and shortly after that, I hear two more shots and that was it.”

The woman said shootings were uncommon in the area.
