Dozens of Bahamians expressed disdain over the recent selection of the late Sir Roland Symonette as a member of the national honours Wednesday.

Much of the criticism centered on racism, as many took to social media, questioning why the first premier was bestowed such an honour.

Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Chairman Fred Mitchell, who served on the committee told Eyewitness News yesterday, that it was not a decision that was backed by the committee.

Mitchell said the final decision was made by Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis.
