The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) released the latest figures on murder for the first half of the year.
According to authorities, the murder rate is down when compared to the same period last year.
Police records indicate that the murder count between January and June stood at 54, while 73 murders were recorded during the same period last year.
Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson revealed Tuesday that the decrease in murder stats is promising news, as authorities work toward getting a handle on serious crime throughout the country.
Ferguson revealed that police confiscated more than 100 weapons during the first half of 2018 and arrested 2,000 persons on criminal offenses.
Crime statistics on housebreaking, armed robbery and information regarding crime trends, gang culture and hot spots identified for criminal activity were not available during today’s press briefing.
