NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Puerto Rican Rafael Campos won his first professional golf tournament on Wednesday at the Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club. He posted a final-round 2-under 70 to finish at 7-under 281.

“I got really emotional coming off the green,” Campos said. “My caddy told me to take my time on that eight-inch putt at the end I didn’t know why. And then when I made it I thought to myself, ‘Okay, had a good week,’ but the cheer from the crowd was so loud and I looked over at the leader board. It’s just really emotional.

“It’s so special to get my first win on the island of Abaco, with Brian Shaver and Greg Sherwood watching. It’s truly priceless.”

The 30-year-old earned $108,00 for winning the tournament. He played the back nine in three under and equaled the second-best round of the day amid the blustery conditions. He started the final round three shots behind co-leaders Willy Wilcox and Erik Compton.

Vincent Whaley was second, followed by Paul Imondi (72), Tyler McCumber (73), John Oda (76) and Wilcox (76).
