Campbell named HCC athlete of the week

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Highland Community College (HCC) sprinter Coshan Campell earned “Scottie Athlete of the Week” honors after a strong performance over the weekend at the Fred Belie Classic in Crete, Nebraska.

Campbell set a new school record in the women’s 800 meters (m) in a time of 2:15.25, lowering it by two seconds. The old record was set back in 1991. Campbell’s time was also a Doane Fieldhouse record, which was her second inside the facility. She set the 600m record earlier this season.

Campbell has performed well for HCC in her final year of eligibility at the institution. So far, she has qualified for six events at the indoor national championships. She has qualified for Nationals in the 200, 400, 600- and 800-meter runs. She is also a member of both the school’s 4×400 and 4×800 teams that have qualified as well.

She qualified for the 200 and 400 at the KU Jayhawk Classic on January 25. She won the 200 with a time of 25.58 seconds and was second in the 400 in a time of 56.63 seconds.

HCC will host the Scottie Classic on Saturday at Walter’s Wellness Center. Campbell will compete in both the 200 and the 400.
