BPL temporarily stops load shedding

Power company says it has met generation demand today

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- After consistently load shedding for weeks, Bahamas Power and Light announced this morning that it has sufficiently met generation demand to stop load shedding for the moment.

It remains unclear how long the reprieve in power outages will last.

“The BPL System Control wishes to notify customers that at the moment our generation is sufficient to meet the load demand,” the power company said.

“This means that we are not yet forecasting any load shedding at present.

“However, if this changes and load shedding becomes necessary, customers in the areas listed below will experience load shedding in a three-hour rotation.”

If BPL initiates load shedding, the areas to first be impacted would be Elizabeth Estates, Gull Gardens, Harbour Bay Shopping Centre, London Terrace, Port New Providence, Yamacraw Beach Estates, Yamacraw Shores, Shirley Street, between Village Road and International Supply, and St. Andrews Beach Estate, Treasure Cove.
