BPL Chairman Donovan Moxey

Newly appointed chairman of Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) Dr. Donovan Moxey says he sees nothing wrong with BPL awarding a contract to his mobile app company- Mobile Assist – if he removed himself from the decision-making process.

In a press conference yesterday to which Eyewitness News was not invited, Moxey said he would have to consult his company’s board members to determine whether they will proceed with their bid.

This new development is raising questions of a possible conflict of interest which could potentially lead to another BPL scandal, after weeks of allegations and a very public fall out between the former board chair Darnell Osbourne and Minister of Works Desmond Bannister.

Emails obtained by Eyewitness News show where Moxey repeatedly petitioned former board members to consider his company and also lobbied for the former administration to consider his product as well.

No contracts, however, were formalized.

On Monday, Moxey declared that operations at BPL moving forward will be based on transparency and accountability.
