Fountain suggests meeting of minds between govt. and hotel owners

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Resort properties in Marsh Harbour, Green Turtle Cay and Treasure Cay all suffered damage to ‘varying degrees’, according to Bahamas Out Island Promotion Board (BOIPB) executive director Kerry Fountain.

Speaking to Eyewitness News, Fountain said, “It’s safe to say, with many of our hotels’ staff/team members also being negatively impacted and or displaced, full recovery will not happen overnight. Hotels south of Marsh Harbour fared much better.”

He added: “All of our member properties on Green Turtle Cay, in Treasure Cay and Marsh Harbour areas suffered damage to varying degrees.”

He also encouraged the “powers that be” to meet with airline partners that provided service to Abaco and Grand Bahama and have them consider other islands for the upcoming winter season.

Fountain also suggested a “meeting of the minds” between government and hotel owners/investors regarding concessions, if they are interested in rebuilding.

Hurricane Dorian pummeled the islands of Grand Bahama and Abaco September 1-3, decimating communities and displacing thousands.
