Bishop Walter Hanchell.

Chairman of Citizens for a better Bahamas Bishop Walter Hanchell told Eyewitness News Sunday that he “sympathized” with residents who are being forced to vacate and called on the government to find alternative means to deal with the issue.

His comments came after Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield said that the government must take a zero-tolerance approach to the situation and shantytown residents will have to find proper dwellings once the August 10 deadline arrives.

With less than two weeks left to vacate the properties, the government is remaining firm on its stance on the decades-long issue of unregulated properties.
