BEWU president urges BPL to clean filthy bathrooms

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – President of The Bahamas Electrical Workers Union (BEWU) Paul Maynard, on Wednesday threatened to shut down the Clifton Pier power plant if the bathrooms are not immediately cleaned.

Maynard claimed that management has refused to clean the bathroom at the site for more than two months.

Maynard alleged that BPL renovated a bathroom for employees working for Watsila, but the bathrooms for Bahamian workers remain mouldy and unfit for use.

Government signed an agreement earlier this month with Finnish technology group Wartsila, for the construction of a 140-watt power plant at Clifton Pier.

Yesterday, Maynard also produced photos of the current condition of the bathroom, comparing it to photos of the bathrooms now being used by the Wartsila group, which shows a vast difference.

The union, he said,  will conduct a site inspection on Monday and if the work is not completed, they will shut the power plant down.
