BBSQ Executive Director, Dr. Renae Ferguson-Bufford, appointed vice-chair of ISO DEVCO

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- The Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) has announced the appointment of its Executive Director, Dr. Renae Ferguson-Bufford, as Vice Chair of the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) Policy Development Committee on Developing Country Matters (DEVCO) for the 2025-2026 term.

Dr. Ferguson-Bufford’s appointment was confirmed during the 44th Chair’s Advisory Group (CAG) meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. This prestigious role places The Bahamas at the forefront of global standardization efforts, further enhancing the nation’s leadership in shaping policies that promote economic growth, trade facilitation, and consumer protection in developing countries.

DEVCO plays a vital role in identifying the standardization needs of developing nations, recommending technical assistance, and guiding ISO’s strategic policies. As Vice Chair, Dr. Ferguson-Bufford will collaborate closely with global leaders to ensure that international standards remain integral to sustainable development and economic progress.

Dr. Ferguson-Bufford has been an active member of the Chair’s Advisory Group since 2023 and was previously elected as the first Caribbean female to serve on the ISO Board of Directors. Her leadership in the standardization field, combined with her expertise in World Trade Organization (WTO) matters, has earned her widespread recognition, positioning her as an outstanding candidate for this esteemed position.
