BBSQ & BCCEC host workshop for local manufacturers

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) and the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) is hosting a three-day workshop to educate local manufacturers about how to package and label products that comply with European legislation.

The virtual workshop, which runs from November 2-4, is open to manufacturers throughout The Bahamas who wish to export their goods to the European Union (EU).

Bringing opening remarks, Renae Bufford, BBSQ director, said: “As the principle national authority for standards and quality, the BBSQ prides itself on advancing development through the facilitation and promotion of quality services for local businesses.

“As the preeminent resource and advocate for local businesses, the BCCEC aims to drive effective change for the entire business community. So, it is no surprise that members of both organizations would create a three-day forum to discuss the logistics of packaging and labelling goods for the EU market.”

Workshop sessions will cover broad topics like current EU market trends, the EU-CARIFORUM Economic Partnership Agreement, units and measurements, packaging requirements and business intelligence tools.

Other sessions will provide information about the labeling and packaging of specific goods, including cosmetics, disinfectants and detergents.

Thayer Braynen, BBSQ senior standards officer and workshop speaker, noted that attendees will learn about how the EU is driving innovation in packaging. For example, the EU has more “stringent” requirements than other global markets when it comes to lessening the environmental impact of packaging.

The EU is also a leader in value-added packaging, which involves printing quick response (QR) codes that lead consumers to more information about a product or to the manufacturer’s ads.

Registration is currently open for Nov 3 and Nov 4 sessions at https://bit.ly/NewBbsqBccecEUWorkshopSess2.

Sessions are held from 10am to 1pm daily.
