BBF hosts national championships

The Bahamas Bowling Federation (BBF) held its annual championships at Mario’s Bowling Lanes on Sunday.

The competition, which kicked off at 1:00 p.m., saw junior girl’s and boy’s divisions in play.

Sarah Penn defeated P’Ante Rolle in junior girl’s play while Clarence Sargent beat Carsean Clarke in junior boy’s action.

The junior championships were followed by the senior nationals.

In the opening round of the women’s division, Janice Hoyte overcame Angela Smith. Hoyte followed that up with wins over Tara Johnson and Jonice Lockhart, to advance to the division championships. However, in the final, Hoyte came up short against reigning champ Driskell Rolle.

Seeing that Rolle was the returning champion, she automatically qualified for a spot in the championship match.

Over in the men’s division, Tyrone Knowles beat Sonith Lockhart in the opener. Knowles also defeated Lee Davis and Richard Pyfrom to advance to the championship match but lost to reigning champion David Slatter in the final.

Like Rolle, Slatter also had an automatic bid to the finals.
