The 2018 Youth Summer Olympic games continued yesterday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Both Izaak Bastian and Victoria Russell represented The Bahamas on the third day of competition.
Bastian finished eighth overall in heat seven of the men’s 50-meter (m) freestyle in 24.13 seconds, failing to qualify for the semifinal round. Daniil Markov, from Russia, won the heat in 22.73 seconds, followed by Bjoern Seeliger, from Sweden, in 22.85 seconds and his teammate Robin Hanson in 22.85 seconds.
As for Russell, she was fourth overall in heat two of the women’s 50m breaststroke in 28.40 seconds. Although she finished in the top five in her heat, the time wasn’t fast enough to qualify for the semifinals, bringing her time at the games to an end.
Bastian competes again today in heat three of the men’s 200 breast. He wraps up his time at the event on Thursday in the men’s 50 breast. Bastian and Russell are the only Bahamian swimmers at the event.
Team Bahamas will be represented at the competition again during the athletics portion of the games. Adrian Curry, Megan Moss, Shaun Miller, Matthew Thompson and Raymond Oriakhi will represent The Bahamas on the track.
