Bahamasair employees fired in credit card scam

Several employees at the national flag carrier have been fired as a result of an alleged credit card scam on Monday, according to a statement released by Bahamasair.

The statement, which was issued by Managing Director Tracy Cooper, revealed that management conducted an internal investigation and uncovered a number of credit card ticket purchases that did not follow the established protocols for card transactions.

“As a result of our findings, some employees have been released,” the statement read.

“We note that this is an open investigation which has been turned over to the Commercial Crimes Unit (CCU) of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF).

“Bahamasair, as the national flag carrier, is committed to being a responsible steward of the people’s resources.”

Back in September 2016, Bahamasair officials also discovered another ticket scam, which offered “deeply discounted” airline tickets to clients purchasing flights through a third-party source. However, Bahamasair officials said yesterday that the two matters are not related.

Officials said it was too early to reveal the financial impact of the scam as investigations are ongoing.
