Bahamasair advises of flight changes, suspensions due to Hurricane Dorian

Passengers allowed to alter itinerary penalty free for 30 days

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Bahamasair yesterday made several changes to its flight schedule due to the trajectory of Hurricane Dorian, which is expected to begin to impact the islands of The Bahamas this afternoon.

For the travelling public in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamasair said all flights on Saturday will be suspended, but the airline will operate all scheduled flights into Freeport until then. The airline noted that the last flight from Freeport to Fort Lauderdale scheduled for this afternoon will not be precleared by local United States Customs and Border Protection and will have to be post cleared in the U.S.

Bahamasair noted that passengers who do not possess a U.S. visa will not be processed to board.

Aa it relates to Abaco, the flagship carrier said all flights will be suspended following its 1:50 p.m. flight.

“It is anticipated that the airport will remain closed until otherwise advised,” Bahamasair said. “Flights to be operated include Marsh Harbour/West Palm Beach and Marsh Harbour/Nassau.”

The airline also advised that scheduled North Eleuthera flight on Saturday afternoon has been rescheduled to depart New Providence at 9 a.m. with the return flight departing at 9:50 a.m.

It said all other flights will be suspended until the airport reopens.

Additionally, flights to Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando are expected to operate as per normal through Saturday’s schedule. However, Bahamasair said it will provide a further update today related to possible closure of these airports, which depends on information provided by those respective areas.

“All other scheduled flights not listed in the above communication are expected to operate as normal based on the current forecasts — this is subject to change based on movement and strength of the storm,” Bahamasair advised. “Please note that all changes to the schedule outlined above are driven by the closure of these respective airports by the relevant authorities.”

Flight changes

Passengers who wish to alter their travel itineraries as a result of Hurricane Dorian will be allowed to do so without the usual penalties for a period of 30 days, beginning yesterday, Bahamasair said.

The airline encouraged the public to remain vigilant and attentive for further public advisories as it works to keep its passengers updated.
