Bahamas’ positivity rate hovers around 15 percent

Another 30 COVID-19 cases confirmed Sunday

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Bahamas has a COVID-19 positivity rate of around 15 percent.

In the last week, 1,931 tests were performed.

Of those, 111 were repeated tests and 272 tests were positive.

Health officials reported Sunday that of the 169 tests performed, 30 returned positive results.

Of these tests, 13 were repeated tests.

This reflects a 19.2 percent daily positive rate for Sunday.

Up to last night, 40,118 tests had been performed.

According to Erin Bromage, a comparative immunologist at the University of Massachusetts, adequate testing and tracing take place when test rates remain around five percent or lower for two weeks.

Another 30 COVID-19 cases were confirmed yesterday — 11 on Grand Bahama, 11 on Bimini, six on New Providence, one on Eleuthera and one on Abaco.

The Bahamas has recorded a total of 7,256 COVID-19 cases.

Of those, 5,341 or 73 percent have recovered, while another 1,699 remain active.

There have been 163 confirmed deaths.

Twenty-one deaths remain under investigation.

A total of 32 deaths were classified as non-COVID-related, meaning the case died of another illness.

There were 25 cases hospitalized, including three in the Intensive Care Unit.
