The Bahamas Government is taking a proactive approach to guard against any potential impact of the civil unrest currently plaguing Haiti over a reported increase in gas prices, as air service to and from the country have been suspended.
On Saturday, Bahamasair issued a statement noting, that all flights into Haiti have been temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
It also stated that the airline would resume services when it is satisfied that there will be no threat to “our passengers or our staff”.
Discussions are said to have taken place with regional leaders and those in the United States in an attempt to remedy the situation.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield said the Department of Immigration and the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) have also been put on notice.
