Bahamas falls to Puerto Rico 95-50

The Bahamas came up short in its first game of the 2018 Centrobasket Championships in Puerto Rico, falling to the host country 95-50.

Leashja Grant led The Bahamas with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Dayshalee Salaman, Allison Gibson and Jazmon Gwathmey had 12 points each in the win for Puerto Rico.

Team Bahamas fell behind 30-10 at the end of the first quarter and was never able to get closer than down 15 in the game. Turnovers were the chief hindrance to The Bahamas in the loss. Puerto Rico forced team Bahamas into 32 turnovers, which it converted into 42 points on the other end of the floor.

The Bahamas is in action again today against Mexico. Team Bahamas is playing out of Group B, along with Puerto Rico, Mexico and Costa Rica. Teams that advance out of group play will advance to the qualification rounds.
